willgarrood: I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST WADO-RYU..but their katas are similar to ours :L   I don’t really get this because they don’t look the same nor have the same exact kata :P but then in another way.. wado does look less flashy in comparison to shotokan but it is not less effective. You can usually tell from the kata names (if were talking about kata that is :S aha) heian>shotokan Pinan>wado bassai/passai, gankaku/chinto, empi/wanshu It all looks similar because it is.. its from the same roots. Hironori otsuka did shotokan and Jiu jitsu.. wado is more or less shotokan that embraces JJ.. its shotokan but less flashy, and all that jazz… imo shotokan generates the same power as wado but will all them extra noises, slow combinations etc etc it looks a bit more graceful.
